Palma Christmas Lights Route

When December arrives, Palma transforms. Its streets light up, the squares fill with a festive atmosphere, and the city takes on a special glow that invites you to stroll at your own pace. Christmas lighting has become one of the most anticipated attractions of the winter, and every year thousands of residents and visitors walk through the city centre to enjoy this spectacle of light.
To help you make the most of this experience, we suggest a Christmas lights route through Palma, perfect for walking and discovering the most magical corners of the city.
1. Passeig del Born: the most iconic starting point. The walk begins at Passeig del Born, one of Palma's most elegant avenues. A vaulted canopy of lights, with designs that change every year, creates a luminous tunnel that invites you to pause, look up, and take the first photos. With its terraces, shops and lively atmosphere, it is the perfect place to start the route.
2. Plaza de la Reina and Jaime III: classic spots that shine. From El Born, head up to Plaza de la Reina, where the lighting surrounds the central fountain and gardens. Continue along Jaime III, one of the city's most well-known shopping avenues. Its rows of warm-coloured lights reflect on the stately buildings, creating a charming urban landscape.
3. Plaza Mayor: the heart of the Christmas atmosphere. The route continues to Plaza Mayor, possibly one of the liveliest spots at this time of year. Here you’ll find the traditional Christmas market, where you can browse crafts, nativity figures and typical sweets. The lights suspended above the square add a festive touch that invites you to linger a little longer.
4. Calle San Miguel: a vibrant stroll. From Plaza Mayor, walk down Calle San Miguel, one of the busiest streets in the centre. The lighting, which runs along the entire street, creates a luminous thread that accompanies you between shops, cafés and historic buildings. It is a lively stretch, perfect for continuing to soak up the festive atmosphere.
5. Plaza de Cort: the most photographed Christmas tree. Arrive at Plaza de Cort, home to Palma’s City Hall. Every Christmas, the square displays a large illuminated tree that has become one of the city’s festive icons. Here, visitors and locals stop to take photos, enjoy the ambience and admire the lighting that highlights the historic façade of the town hall.
6. La Seu and Parc de la Mar: charm by the sea. The route continues towards the Cathedral of Mallorca (La Seu), which takes on a special beauty when night falls. Although the lighting here is more subtle, the combination of lights, golden stone and reflections in Parc de la Mar creates one of the most beautiful Christmas scenes in Palma. It is an ideal place to stroll calmly and enjoy a quieter atmosphere.
7. La Rambla: the perfect ending. To finish the route, walk up La Rambla, an avenue filled with flowers and small stalls that is decorated each year with rows of lights. It is the ideal stretch to end the route with a hot chocolate, an ensaimada, or simply a relaxed stroll among illuminated trees.
