Museum route in Palma from Hotel Saratoga
Palma de Mallorca is a perfect city to explore on foot, especially if you stay in a central area such as the surroundings of Hotel Saratoga.
From here, in just a few minutes, you can immerse yourself in a cultural route that connects contemporary art, Balearic history, and unique spaces within the old town. This museum route is designed to be enjoyed in half a day or a full day, at a relaxed pace, combining culture with pleasant walks through the city.
Starting point: Hotel Saratoga
Hotel Saratoga is located in a privileged area, next to the Santa Catalina district and just a few steps from the Paseo Marítimo.
From here, the first museum is literally a 5-minute walk away.
1. Es Baluard Museu d’Art Contemporani
Just a few meters from the hotel is Es Baluard, one of the most important contemporary art museums in the Balearic Islands. Located within former defensive walls, it combines historic architecture with modern spaces and spectacular views over the Bay of Palma.
Here you will find works by artists such as Picasso, Miró, and Barceló, as well as temporary exhibitions of international contemporary art.
It is an ideal stop to begin the route with energy and artistic context.
2. Walk towards the old town
From Es Baluard, the route continues towards Palma’s old town. In about 10–15 minutes on foot, you will pass through shopping streets and squares until reaching the cultural heart of the city.
3. CaixaForum Palma
Housed in a restored modernist building, CaixaForum is a dynamic cultural space with a wide variety of temporary exhibitions: photography, modern art, science, or design. It is an easy museum to visit, ideal for a short stop of around one hour.
4. Juan March Foundation
Very close by, in the city center, is the Juan March Foundation, a must-visit for lovers of modern Spanish art. The collection includes works by artists such as Dalí, Miró, and Picasso, in an elegant, शांत and usually free-entry space.
5. Museum of Mallorca
Continuing through the old town, you will reach the Museum of Mallorca, located in a former stately palace. This museum offers a complete journey through the island’s history: from Roman and Islamic periods to Gothic art and traditional Mallorcan life. It is a slower-paced stop, perfect for those seeking historical context.
6. Palma Cathedral Museum (La Seu)
The route culminates at one of the city’s icons: Palma Cathedral. In addition to its impressive Gothic architecture, the museum houses sacred art pieces and allows visitors to discover the history of the temple from within.
If time allows, it is highly recommended to go up to the terraces to enjoy one of the best views of the city.
Optional: Sa Llotja
Before returning to the hotel, it is worth visiting Sa Llotja, a spectacular Gothic building near the port that hosts temporary art exhibitions.
It is a short but very photogenic visit.
