9th Anniversary of Jazz Jam Sessions
On Monday 1 May the Blue Jazz Club will celebrate the 9th Anniversary of the iconic Monday night Jazz Jam Sessions. On Monday 5th May 2008 Geoff Frosell, the bandleader and jazz trombonist, hosted the first Jazz Jam Session at the Blue Jazz Club.
Geoff had been running a Jazz Jam at the Real Club Nautico de Palma since April 2001, but this move to the Hotel Saratoga was the start of a much bigger and more organised affair. It presents an opportunity for experienced jazz musicians and for up-and-coming young performers to share their talent.
In its 9 year history the Monday night sessions have seen many famous guests entertain the Jazz Fans who attend regularly. These have included famous musicians from Germany, United States of America, France, Sweden, United Kingdom as well as from all over Spain.
The oldest guest musician was 81 year old English clarinettist Ian Wheeler, and the youngest performer was an 8 year old singer from Argentina and the greatest number of musicians who played on one night was 22!
The Jazz Jam Sessions are organised by guitarist Omar Lanuti whose trio of guitar, bass and drums accompany the special guest of the night. They play a mini-concert of about 40 minutes before the stage if open for good jazz musicians to come and perform before the enthusiastic audience.
On this 8th Anniversary Geoff Frosell and the Omar Lanuti Trio will be joined by the great German saxophonist ArnoHaas, Mallorcan trumpet star Pep Garau and Cuban drummer and percussionist Nailé Sosa in a mini-concert before the stage if open to guests
The Jazz Jam Session take place every Monday from 20:30 to 22:30 and admission is free. If you want to eat it is best to reserve a table on 0034 971 727 240.
