On the 5th May 2008 trombonist Geoff Frosell welcomed a huge crowd of jazz fans to the first Jazz Jam Session at the Blue Jazz Club. After a short concert by Geoff’s group the Palma Jazz Quartet, musicians in the audience were invited to come onstage andplay.

Since that day 10 years ago, the Blue Jazz Club has staged about 500 Jam Sessions which has times featured many famous international jazz musicians. These have included Alec Dankworth (Dave Brubeck, Van Morrison, Ginger Baker, Duke Ellington), Colin Wood (Acker Bilk), Christine Jones (Dexter Gordon, Kenny Clark), Steve Waterman (Carla Bley), Arno Hass (Grammy winner 2017), Salvador Sobral (winner Eurovision 2017, Chic Corea), Lluc Casares (Julliard Big Band), Tony Lakatos (Kirk Lightsey, George Mraz, Al Foster) and many more.

The youngest musician to sit in was a girl of 5 and the oldest was clarinettist Ian Christie, 81, who started his professional life in Humphrey Lyttenton’s band in 1947! The greatest number of guest musicians was 24; although they did not all play at the same time!

10 years later in addition to International Stars, the Monday Night Jazz Jam Sessions attracts many young musicians from all over the world, but in particular young musicians from Mallorca.
